Scope and Content
The records were arranged into ten series which reflect Senator Terry Gerratana's legislative activities in the Connecticut State Senate. The series include:
Series 1. BioScience Connecticut and Jackson Labs, 2011-2012, undated, consists of articles, bill drafts, conference materials, notes, presentations, reports, talking points, and other information pertaining to legislation regarding the BioScience Connecticut collaboration program, the Jackson Laboratory Project (JAX), and promoting economic growth and job creation in the state of Connecticut.
Series 2. Busway Project, 2007-2012, undated, includes articles, correspondence, memos, notes, notice of decision, project descriptions, reports, timelines, and other information related to the CTfastrak busway connecting New Britain and Hartford.
Series 3. Children and Families, 2006-2014, undated, contains bill drafts, correspondence, materials from the Speaker's Task Force on Children in the Recession, memos, motions, notes, reports, testimonies, and other information pertaining to legislation regarding the examination of the guardian ad litem system, the establishment of a task force to study legal disputes involving the care and custody of minors, child-safe products and chemicals of high concern to children, toxics disclosure and innovation for healthy children, and the reporting of missing children.
Series 4. Death Penalty and Crime, 2005-2012, undated, consists of arguments, testimonies, transcripts, and other information pertaining to legislation concerning abolishing the death penalty, jurisdiction in homicide cases, post-conviction procedures in death penalty cases, reforming habeas corpus, subpoenas for property, and victim impact statements in capital murder cases.
Series 5. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), 2012-2013, undated, includes articles, bill drafts, correspondence, factsheets, memos, notes, and other information pertaining to legislation concerning the labeling of genetically engineered food and baby food, as well as an amendment to Connecticut's egg statutes.
Series 6. Governmental Accountability, 2011, undated, contains correspondence, notes, testimonies, and other information pertaining to the Governor's Bill No. 1009: An Act Creating the Office of Governmental Accountability and the Governor's Bill No. 1000: An Act Reforming the State Budget Process.
Series 7. Health Care Reform, 2006-2014, undated, includes articles, bill drafts, correspondence, factsheets, meeting agendas, notes, presentations, proposals, reports, testimonies, and talking points pertaining to legislation concerning health care reform, patient consent for the exchange of electronic health information, establishing a state health insurance exchange, implementing the Sustinet plan, and implementing a basic health program.
Series 8. Lyme Disease, 2012, consists of correspondence and testimony pertaining to legislation concerning Lyme disease.
Series 9. Museum Property, 2012, contains bill drafts, correspondence, and testimony related to Raised Bill No. 5355: An Act Concerning Museum Property.
Series 10. Public Health, 2013-2017, includes Public Health Committee meeting agendas, attendance, and minutes from January to April 2017, as well as the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering Health Impact Assessment in October 2013.

Biographical Note
Theresa "Terry" Bielinski Gerratana served as a Democratic member of the Connecticut State Senate from 2011 to 2019, when she joined the administration of Governor Ned Lamont. She represented District 6, which covered the communities of Berlin, Farmington, and New Britain. During her tenure, Senator Gerratana served as Chief Deputy President Pro Tempore, chair of the Public Health Committee, vice-chair of the Committee on Children, and was a member of the Appropriations and Judiciary committees. She was an advocate for healthy families and communities, helping pass children's health care legislation as well as managed care and mental health reform. For her work, she was recognized by several groups, including the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, the ARC of Connecticut, the Connecticut Association of Social Workers, and the Connecticut Medical Society.
Senator Gerratana previously served as a commissioner of the State Elections Enforcement Commission from 2007 to 2010, where she worked on implementation of the state's Clean Elections Program. Prior to this role, she served in the Connecticut General Assembly as a member of the state House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003. During her tenure in the House, she served as co-chair of the Human Services Committee. She also held the position of ethics commissioner for the city of New Britain from 1990 to 1993.
Senator Gerratana served as president of the League of Women Voters for the New Britain area and president of the Junior League of Greater New Britain. She was also involved with several area organizations, including New Britain General Hospital, the Klingberg Family Center, the New Britain-Berlin YMCA, the New Britain Library board, the New Britain YWCA, and local arts organizations. She received her Bachelor of Science from Central Connecticut State University and was certified as a secondary school teacher. She is married to Dr. Frank Gerratana, and they have children and grandchildren.

This subgroup is comprised of records relating to Senator Terry Gerratana's legislative career in the Connecticut State Senate. These records include drafts of proposed, raised, and substitute Senate, House, and Governor's bills, as well as the notes, research, testimonies, and other information Senator Gerratana gathered in the course of her work.
