Historical Note

This seven-member Committee was appointed by Governor John Davis Lodge on February 3, 1954, to study traffic problems affecting the Hartford area and recommend "the solution". Judge William Maltbie was chairman and Norman Hebden, highway engineer from Connecticut Public Expenditure Council, and William Dower, of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce, were the principal staff. The Committee held meetings and conferences with town, business and railroad officials, and technical experts. Its report [CSL call number Conn Doc H53g] was submitted to Governor Ribicoff in 1955.
