Historical Note

The Jamestown Tercentennial Exposition was held in Hampton Roads, Virginia, April 29 to November 30, 1907, to celebrate the three hundredth anniversary of the first English-speaking colony. A Connecticut General Assembly resolution provided for representation and authorized the Governor to appoint a three-member commission. Commission members included Samuel A. Eddy, William J. Barber and Thomas Hamilton, and Mrs. John M. Holcombe, Frank L. Wilcox and Samuel Hart served as an advisory committee with George D. Curtis as manager. The Commission oversaw the construction and furnishing of the Connecticut building and the State’s exhibit hall at the Exposition.
